About

Sunrise Video Production Ltd, has now been reopened as Stoic Films

Owned and operated by David Duckworth, Stoic Films has been revitalised to reflect David’s admiration for the people of Christchurch, and how tough they have needed to be in recent times. Sunrise Video Production Ltd was on the brink of collapse due to being located in a basement office in the centre of Christchurch’s Central Business District. David was in the office at the time of the February earthquake, and was lucky to escape with only minor cuts and bruises. All his production equipment was inside the office, still intact, but David was unable to retrieve it due to it being in the Noo Access Zone. This put
Sunrise Video Production out of action, and David spent weeks wrestling with the toughest decision of his life. Whether to continue following his passions in spite of the odds being against him, or overcome the obstacles and carry on.

Watching the people of Christchurch, David realised that there are many other people out there who have faced the same life-changing predicament, and
have decided to carry on. David felt inspired by the people of Christchurch, by
the stoic energy shown on a collective basis. He met with some friends, Jake Hurrel, Geoff Yardley and Herbie Berger, and collectively they decided to carry on with making local, high quality films, and the new beginning needed a new name to reflect what everyone was going through, and to show support for the energy of the Christchurch people who had helped David make the decision.

Stoic Films was decided upon, as the most suitable name for the new company. With the help of a few kind-hearted New Zealanders who sold David some
production equipment they no longer required, Stoic Films is now operational,
and able to provide most of the services that Sunrise Video once offered.

These include, but are not limited to: wedding videos, promotional
material and music videos, but now Stoic Films is also involved with DV film
making. In essence, this is creating high quality cinematic films, on a
shoestring budget. There is no need to have a hundred crew members, if you know
some of the tricks to shooting a great scene without all the extra work.

Stoic Films is dedicated to telling compelling stories, whether they are
fiction or non fiction. Stoic Films is lucky enough to have their own script
writer in Australia, Natasha Otten, who is a former resident of Christchurch and
believes in the spirit of the people of her home city. She also collaborates
with the writers we have here in Christchurch from time to time.

Stoic Films is currently assisting with a few projects and short films,
and will be committing to some great personal project stories very soon. Keep
watching our latest projects on this website, and we hope you will enjoy
watching the processes unfold. Please feel free to leave a comment if you
desire, we would love to hear from you.
